The ability to add, substitute, and delete individual sounds is a phonemic awareness skill and the most complex of the phonological tasks. These cards are formatted with two pictures representing words that differ by the beginning, middle, or ending sounds and with Elkonin boxes that provide a visual prompt of the number of sounds in the words. The format also allows the student to engage in a fun story about a magic pond. This activity is aligned to the Reading Foundational Skill: Phonological Awareness. The cards may be used with partners or as a teacher-led activity with a group of students.
